Conservative radio host John Fredericks told Astead Herndon that Republicans can prevail in the midterms if voter turnout stays strong, despite economic headwinds facing the party.

Fredericks acknowledged that affordability is a real problem for Republicans. Consumer prices are up 3.7 percent year to year, gas hovers around $4 nationally, and grocery and utility costs remain high. He said these issues will cost Republicans seats. But he argued that underlying economic fundamentals are improving. Consumer spending is at record levels, jobs are up, and wages are up. He stated that voters with disposable income and job security will give Trump the benefit of the doubt.

"The fundamental thing is, are MAGA voters going to stay home and abandon the president?" Fredericks said. He predicted they will turn out and that Trump, as "a closer," can fire up supporters at the last moment.

Fredericks predicted Republicans will gain two seats in the Senate and hold the House. He identified three races to watch as early bellwethers on election night. Virginia's Second District pits Republican Jen Kiggans against Democrat Elaine Luria. Virginia's First District features Republican Rob Wittman. Pennsylvania's Bucks County race includes Republican Brian Fitzpatrick. Fredericks predicted that if all three win, Republicans will hold the House.
