Miami, Georgia, Utah, and Notre Dame would receive the top four seeds and first-round byes in a hypothetical 12-team College Football Playoff bracket based on The Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday.
Miami holds the No. 1 seed, followed by Georgia at No. 2, Utah at No. 3, and Notre Dame at No. 4. The shuffle in the top four occurred after Ohio State lost to Southern California and Indiana slipped two spots in the AP poll after beating Minnesota in overtime.
The first-round matchups would be: No. 9 Alabama at No. 8 Kentucky, No. 12 Boise State at No. 5 UCLA, No. 10 Texas at No. 7 BYU, and No. 11 Ohio State at No. 6 Indiana.
The Southeast Conference would have four teams in the bracket, the Big Ten three, the Big 12 two, and the Atlantic Coast Conference and Pac-12 one each. Notre Dame would qualify as an independent. Boise State would represent the Pac-12 as the top Group of Six champion.
Mississippi, Texas Tech, and Wake Forest rank as the first three teams outside the bracket. Mississippi ranks No. 12 in the AP poll but would miss the field because Boise State, as the highest-ranked Group of Six team, takes priority.
The College Football Playoff releases its initial rankings Tuesday night, with the final bracket set Dec. 6. First-round games occur Dec. 18 and 19, quarterfinals Dec. 30 and Jan. 1, semifinals Jan. 14 and 15, and the championship game Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
