RootsAction, a progressive grassroots organization, harshly criticized the Democratic National Committee's 2024 autopsy report released by Chair Ken Martin, calling it a "disgrace" for failing to address core policy failures that contributed to Vice President Kamala Harris's election loss.

The 129-page report emphasizes advertising spending and fundraising mechanics while avoiding substantive analysis of Democratic platform weaknesses, policy positioning, and the broader political context of the race. RootsAction identified two glaring omissions. The word "affordability," which polls showed dominated voter concerns in 2024, appears only twice throughout the entire document. More strikingly, the report contains zero mentions of Gaza or Israel, despite the Middle East conflict fracturing Democratic coalitions and driving significant voter alienation, particularly among younger and Arab American voters.

RootsAction's statement suggests the DNC leadership attempted to distance itself from the report's conclusions, describing the markup as "hasty" and "amateurish" while accusing Martin and the party of deflecting responsibility for their strategic failures.

The criticism reflects deepening tensions within the Democratic Party over its 2024 campaign direction. Progressive activists argue the party abandoned core messaging on economic hardship and took key voter blocs for granted. They contend the DNC's focus on procedural and financial matters rather than policy substance demonstrates institutional disconnection from Democratic base concerns.

The autopsy's release came only after sustained pressure from party members demanding accountability. RootsAction's unsparing response signals that internal Democratic Party conflict over campaign strategy and messaging will continue shaping party dynamics heading into the 2026 midterm elections and beyond.
